History
In October 2007 the
Green Design Group of Green Brook, a subcommittee advising the town on
“green” initiatives held the first ever GrEEn Day with almost 200 people
attending this crucial event. 54 residents took the Energy Star pledge
to “Change a Light, Change the World”, resulting in a savings of over
200,000 lbs of greenhouse gases!!
The Second GrEEn Day held on October 17, 2008 had over 250 people
participate to continue this important conversation. Held in the IEF
Elementary School it showcased a number of projects from the children of
our community as well as environmentally conscious businesses present to
spread awareness about their services.
As we become more aware of the changing demands on our community and its
resources, we have expanded the Fair and on October 18, 2009, we will
have the townships of Green Brook, Long Hill, Warren and Watchung all
join together in the largest ever event held by our communities on green
initiatives. The 2009 Fair promises to have exciting fun activities for
kids and spread further the message of environmental responsibility to
all.
GD2009 Logo Contest
To help spread the word the GrEEn Day Joint Committee this year held a
Logo contest. The objective was to deliver the GD2009 message in a fun
and exciting way. The contest was open to high school children in each
of the respective districts and a large number of entries were received.
Of the shortlisted top 10 entries, 10 judges scored on categories of
creativity of design, relevance to theme, uniqueness and appropriateness
as a logo. Watchung Hill Regional High School’s Alexa Nelson’s winning
entry of a leafy footprint aptly reflected the theme in an easy and fun
way.
